“It was that or go out and rob someone to be able to eat”: Stallone’s confession about the adult film he made for 200 dollars before Rocky

Sylvester Stallone didn’t always have millions or magazine covers.

56 years ago, he was living on the streets, with no money or clear direction, and agreed to star in an adult film for just 200 dollars. He himself summed it up with a brutal phrase: “it was that or rob someone”. There was no luxury in that decision, only pure survival.

What came next seems like the script of another life. Stallone wrote Rocky and sold it to United Artists. The first thing he did with that money was get his dog back, whom he had been forced to sell months earlier. He earned little from that first film, but negotiated something crucial: 10% of the net profits. That figure ended up being worth millions and made him one of the great figures of action cinema in the United States. 🎬
