Melania Trump maintains a much more reserved profile than other members of the Trump family, and according to a former White House official, that distance was also noticeable behind closed doors.
Sarah Matthews, who worked on Donald Trump’s campaign and later in the White House, said that she met numerous members of the administration and the presidential family, but never personally crossed paths with Melania.
What drew the most attention was her claim that the first lady received money for certain political appearances. There is no evidence of a general agreement to pay her to accompany her husband, although there are records showing that Melania received six-figure payments for participating in certain political events.
