Ariana Grande returned to the stage with Eternal Sunshine, after seven years without doing a full tour. It was a comeback her fans had been waiting for, especially because many wanted to see her live again, singing the songs from her new era and reconnecting with the audience after so long.
But the comeback many were expecting for the music ended up taking another turn. After her performance in Oakland, several videos began circulating on social media and many eyes went straight to her current appearance. Some fans said she looked “extremely thin”, “fragile” or even “skin and bones”, and questions about her health quickly appeared.
It’s not the first time this has happened. Ariana has spent years receiving comments about her body, both when she looked different and now. In fact, on other occasions she herself has asked people to stop commenting on other people’s bodies, because you never know what a person is going through behind an image or a short video.
There were also those who asked people to tone it down a bit. Several users pointed out that a concert recording, with lights, angles, and movement, is not enough to draw conclusions about someone’s health. Even less so when it comes to an artist who is constantly under scrutiny.
So far, neither Ariana nor her team have responded to the comments, and the tour dates are still moving forward. The only thing that is clear is that her return to the stage was supposed to be about the music, but the internet once again did what it always does with famous women: look at their bodies before listening to what they are doing.
