Jorge Álvarez Máynez and Movimiento Ciudadano proposed that lawmakers work 6 days a week, with just one day off, like millions of Mexicans.
For many, the measure sounds like basic fairness: if someone in retail or fast food works that schedule for minimum wage, why can’t a lawmaker do the same for a salary several times higher? Others believe the problem isn’t how many days they work, but how little they accomplish during the hours they already have assigned.
