James Brewington Jr. is 61 years old and was free for eight months after killing a man on the road.
On November 9, 2025, in Whites Creek, Nashville, his truck crossed into the opposite lane while attempting to pass and collided head-on with the car of Dustin McLeod, 41. The family was on their way to help Ashley’s grandmother, his wife, hang Christmas lights. Dustin died shortly afterward at Skyline Medical Center. Ashley suffered a fractured kneecap and a broken ankle; her daughter Dakota, just 8 years old, suffered multiple fractures to her ribs, sternum and collarbone.
Brewington disappeared for nearly eight months until he turned himself in to Nashville police on July 23, 2026. In his mugshot, he stuck out his tongue, a gesture one of the victims described as shocking. He faces charges of vehicular homicide, reckless endangerment and three counts of aggravated assault, with bail set at 135,000 dollars.
