Samantha Miller was 34 years old and had just said ‘I do’ in Folly Beach, South Carolina. She was leaving her own wedding in a golf cart with her husband Aric Hutchinson when Jamie Lee Komoroski, then 25, crossed their path while speeding and with a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit.
The impact was instantaneous. Samantha died that same night, just hours after getting married. Aric was left with a severe brain injury, and two other passengers in the cart, Benjamin and Brogan Garrett, were also injured. It all happened on April 28, 2023, while the wedding party was just getting started on the other side of town.
On December 2, 2024, Judge Deadra L. Jefferson sentenced Komoroski to 25 years in prison for reckless homicide, in addition to 10 and 15 years for other drunk-driving charges, to be served concurrently. Aric received compensation of 863,300 dollars, and Samantha’s family, 1.3 million. None of that gives them back the night that was supposed to be the happiest of their lives.
