More than 50 years of protesting, at least 6 arrests, and no intention of stopping: at 88, Jane Fonda still can’t understand how others can stay home without fighting

Jane Fonda was 32 when she was first arrested for protesting the Vietnam War. More than five decades later, at 88, the actress is still taking to the streets to demonstrate, and one thing is clear: she has no intention of stopping.

Activism has accompanied her for much of her life and has also cost her several arrests. In 2019, when she was 81, she began taking part every Friday in the climate protests organized by “Fire Drill Fridays” in Washington. In just a few months, she was arrested five times and spent one night in jail for taking part in one of the demonstrations.

From the protests against Vietnam to her fight for feminism and against climate change, Fonda has spent more than 50 years putting her body on the line for the causes she believes in. And although she is now 88, age doesn’t seem to have changed how she understands activism: she still finds reasons to take to the streets in protest and says she won’t stop doing so.
