The mysterious disappearance of food from the refrigerator led a 57-year-old Japanese man to install a security camera in his home in Fukuoka. He never imagined that the footage would reveal an unknown woman wandering around his house. Frightened, he called the police, who found the intruder hiding in a closet.
Tatsuko Horikawa, 58, had set up the upper part of the closet with a mattress and several bottles of water, living there for approximately a year. She confessed to investigators that she had nowhere to live and was using that hiding place to survive.
Authorities do not rule out the possibility that Horikawa may have set up similar shelters in other houses in the neighborhood. The homeowner remains shaken by the discovery, while the woman was arrested and faces trespassing charges.
