Ashley Young’s case shocked all of Michigan and ended with one of the harshest sentences recorded in the area. The young woman was last seen alive on the night of November 29, 2018, at a bar in Grand Rapids, where she was seen with Jared Chance, the man who would later be charged with her murder. From that moment on, her family began a desperate search that would end in an even more terrifying tragedy.

Two days after her disappearance, a neighbor of Jared Chance made a macabre discovery in the basement they shared. According to the investigation, Ashley’s body had been hidden in different parts, and some of them were never found. The case had a strong impact on the community because of the brutality of the events and the chilling details that came to light during the trial.

During the hearing, Ashley’s family came face to face with the person responsible for the young woman’s death. Through tears, pain, and anger, her loved ones described the irreparable void left by her loss. One of the most moving testimonies was that of her mother, who said that if she wants to feel like she is hugging her daughter, she has to hug a box with her remains and close her eyes to imagine that she is still beside her.

Finally, Jared Chance was found guilty of murder, mutilation, and concealment of a corpse. The judge in charge of the case described him as “a monster without a conscience” before handing down a sentence of between 100 and 200 years in prison. With this sentence, the defendant will spend the rest of his life behind bars with no real possibility of regaining his freedom.
