It has been almost 10 years since Jeffrey Dean Morgan first appeared as Negan in The Walking Dead, but some fans still seem not to have forgiven him.
“I still get hate. There are people who hate me because I killed Glenn. I never understood how they didn’t know that was going to happen, because Glenn dies in the comics”, he said.
The actor said that he continues to receive insults and displays of rejection for playing the character, especially because of the brutal scene in which Negan murdered Glenn, one of the series’ most beloved characters.
“I was surprised by how much it affected people and how much they hated Negan”, he explained.
In fact, an elderly woman assaulted him with a handbag at a café in Georgia.
The curious thing is that Morgan does not play Negan as a simple villain: as the seasons went by, the character evolved and ended up becoming one of the most complex figures in the entire universe of The Walking Dead. He currently even continues to star in Dead City, alongside Lauren Cohan.
But for some viewers, time has not been enough to forget that night.
And perhaps that is one of the greatest compliments an actor can receive: having played a villain so well that years later people still cannot separate the character from the person who plays him.
