Nancy Dow was a model and actress and, for years, had a very close relationship with her daughter Jennifer Aniston. But she was also very critical of her appearance: Jennifer said her mother used to point out that her nose was too big and her eyes were too close together.
Everything changed in 1996, when Nancy gave an interview about her daughter to a tabloid TV show. Three years later, she published From Mother and Daughter to Friends, a book about their family relationship that Jennifer felt was a betrayal.
Mother and daughter stopped speaking for nearly nine years. Nancy also wasn’t invited to Jennifer’s wedding to Brad Pitt in 2000.
During that estrangement, Jennifer said she only wanted to hear one sentence from her mother: “I’m sorry, I understand”.
Over time, they managed to grow close again. In 2005, Aniston confirmed that they had gradually resumed contact, and years later she said they had put some of their differences behind them.
