Amsterdam, March 1969. John Lennon and Yoko Ono had just gotten married and decided to turn their honeymoon into a political act: they would stay in bed at the Hilton for a week, receiving journalists from all over the world to talk about peace in the middle of the Vietnam War.

But even the most iconic protests have domestic pauses. In this image, both wait patiently while a maid makes the bed before resuming their message against the system. Behind them, the signs “Stay in bed” and “Grow your hair” sum up their pacifist philosophy.

Months later they repeated the protest in Montreal, where they recorded “Give Peace a Chance”. A form of activism as simple as it was effective: using fame to plant an idea 🕊️
