John Lennon will never meet his grandson.
He was murdered in 1980 outside the Dakota building, and for 46 years it seemed that his direct lineage would end there: his eldest son, Julian, never had children. But on September 1, 2026, Sean Ono Lennon—the only child he had with Yoko Ono—changed that story forever. At 50, alongside his 39-year-old partner, Charlotte Kemp Muhl, he announced on social media the birth of his first baby: Aurelius, the former Beatle’s first biological grandchild.

The news sparked a wave of affection. Julian Lennon responded with heart emojis and was dubbed ‘Uncle Jules’ by Sean. Patti Smith, Paris Hilton, and Willow Smith also celebrated on social media. At 93, Yoko Ono now counts Aurelius among her grandchildren, this time through John’s bloodline.
