Jonna Wilson was 37 years old when her neighbors heard something they couldn’t ignore.
It was August 2023, at a house on Bolling Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky. Cries for help were coming from upstairs, but police couldn’t get in through the door: someone had barricaded the entire first floor. Officers saw Wilson in a second-story window and had to climb a ladder to reach her.
What they found inside was captured on the officers’ body cameras: a chain was wrapped around Wilson’s neck, secured with a padlock and bolted directly to the floor. They had to break the links with tools to free her.
Two days later, they arrested Moises May. In 2025, a jury found him guilty of kidnapping, five counts of human trafficking, and other crimes. That July, he received a 30-year prison sentence. As of August 2026, May was still appealing the verdict.
