Stephanie Germino was 27 and completely healthy.

But a genetic test revealed that she carried the BRCA1 gene, the same gene that had given her grandmother breast cancer and that her mother had also inherited.

Without waiting for a diagnosis, she decided to get ahead of it: in October 2021, at age 28, she underwent a preventive double mastectomy. Before the surgery, she was able to breastfeed her son Josiah, and her partner Diana accompanied her every step of the recovery.

Unlike her mother and grandmother, who chose reconstruction, Stephanie chose to go flat: no implants, without hiding the scars. Today, through @theebooblessbabe, she shares her story so that other women with the same gene know there is another path, even though it has cost her hateful comments on social media.
