Hannah Israel had a small donkey named HeeHaw. They had bottle-fed him, and he was so gentle that they took him to children’s zoos for kids to pet him.
On the night of August 29, in Rockmart, Georgia, police were searching for a missing 12-year-old girl. According to Israel’s lawsuit, Officer Trenton Garner entered her fenced pasture without a warrant or permission. Minutes later, HeeHaw was dead. The officer claims that the donkey charged at his canine team and that a Taser failed to stop him, so he fired. The family insists that the animal never posed any threat.
The girl was found safe and sound that same night. But according to the lawsuit, no one told Israel what had happened to her donkey until a supervisor called to inform her, using those words, that the animal had been ‘dispatched’ — leaving her and a minor searching for the body at night across several acres. She is now demanding justice in federal court, while the officer remains on administrative leave.
