Katia Itzel García, a 33-year-old Mexican referee, heard her own whistle like never before this Thursday ⚽

She officiated Tunisia 1-3 Netherlands in Group F at the 2026 World Cup, and with every card and every signal, she became the first female referee from all of Latin America to serve as the main official in a World Cup match. A dream that often seems reserved for a few, she made it a reality with the whistle in her hand.

Days later, she was also in the spotlight, this time as the fourth official in Argentina vs Cape Verde, a match where she drew attention on social media 😍 Now her name is etched in the history of world refereeing.
