Kechi Okwuchi was just 16 years old when she survived a plane crash that changed her life forever.
On December 10, 2005, she was traveling by plane from Abuja to Port Harcourt, Nigeria, to spend Christmas with her family. The aircraft crashed, killing 107 people, including dozens of her schoolmates. Only two passengers survived, and Kechi was one of them.

The teenager suffered third-degree burns over 65 % of her body. In 2007, she moved with her family to Texas, United States, to receive specialized treatment and has since undergone more than 100 reconstructive surgeries.
Despite the difficulties, she managed to graduate from college and, in 2017, became a finalist on America’s Got Talent, moving audiences with her voice.

Years later, surgeon Peter Grossman helped her undergo further procedures on her eyelids, neck, and arms to improve her mobility and reduce the limitations she faced even when singing.
Her story is an example of perseverance and of how music became an essential part of her life. ❤️
