Kim Kardashian and Bryan Johnson have something in common besides their obsession with not aging: they both take NMN, a supplement that promises to boost NAD+, the molecule your body starts losing after 40.
Johnson includes it in his Blueprint protocol, that meticulous plan with which he claims to be reversing his biological age. Kardashian adds it to her beauty and wellness routine. But Dr. Pooja Gidwani, an internal medicine specialist, raised an alarm: in people with cancer or undergoing cancer treatment, NMN could accelerate the growth of malignant cells instead of slowing aging.
The most troubling part is that the FDA does not regulate these supplements like prescription medications. So while celebrities promote it as the secret to eternal youth, doctors are asking for something much simpler: ask your doctor before adding it to your routine.
