Kim Kardashian questioned the incarceration of children. After sharing a KTLA news story about California’s Hug Act on Instagram, she wrote: “Why do we even incarcerate children?”.

The measure protects consensual physical contact during visits with detained youth and prohibits denying it as punishment. It allows temporary, specific restrictions in response to significant security risks; it does not eliminate juvenile detention.

The initiative began at Los Padrinos, a juvenile facility in Downey, where young people asked to be able to hug their mothers. Janice Hahn, a Los Angeles County supervisor, supported the initiative: “No one should tell a child they can’t hug their mom”.
