One night in August 2015, Filou escaped through the window of a motorhome at a gas station in Maçanet de la Selva, Girona. His family —Patrick and Evelyne Sire, from Olonzac, in southern France— searched for him without success and had to continue the trip without him. 🐾
What no one imagined was that Filou did not stay still. For more than eleven years, that black-and-white cat crossed the border between Spain and France, went through rivers, cities, and fields, and traveled approximately 250 kilometers. In December 2025, a neighbor named Hélène Tisseyre found him thin and weak near Homps, barely a kilometer from the Sires’ home, and started feeding him. When she took him to the veterinarian and they scanned his microchip, everything fell into place. 😢
On January 9, 2026 —just before Evelyne’s birthday— Patrick Sire arrived in Homps and found Filou in his neighbor’s garden. Veterinarian Jean-François Audrin explained that cats navigate by smell, hearing, and sensitivity to the Earth’s magnetic field. Science gives an answer. But seeing them together again, after all that time, is something else. 🏡❤️
