A wrecked taxi in the middle of a celebration. That is how the night ended for a New York driver when the celebrations over the Knicks’ victory got out of control and his car, his only source of income, was reduced to scrap metal on the street.
What followed was something no one expected. Strangers who did not even know him began sharing his story, and within days a fundraising campaign raised more than $75,000. Messages of support, small and large donations, people who simply wanted that man to be able to work again.
Today, he has not only a new car, but also proof that amid the chaos of a city of eight million people, there are still enough strangers willing to support just one person.
