Greta had been ill since March 2018. A terminal diagnosis, the kind that leaves little room for hope. Piero Temperato, her owner in Gioia del Colle, Italy, learned of it and made a decision he did not need to think twice about.
He took her to her favorite beach. He laid her on the sand, placed a pillow under her head, and covered her with a blanket so that only the sea breeze would touch her body. There were no grand speeches, just a man accompanying his little dog on what he knew would be one of her final days.
