Kylian Mbappé once again found himself at the center of conversation off the pitch because of a scene that took place in Paraguay. During the San Juan festivities, an effigy bearing the name of France’s captain was burned in front of attendees, in a popular tradition that often uses public figures to represent social criticism and satire.

The image sparked controversy because it came after the clash between Mbappé and Paraguayan sectors following Paraguay’s elimination against France at the 2026 World Cup. According to the report, the controversy had intensified due to racist comments by senator Celeste Amarilla against the forward.

The episode coincided with sporting concerns over Mbappé, who left with discomfort in his right ankle during France’s victory over Morocco. France was still awaiting clarity on his physical condition.
