Lambert didn’t choose his childhood. A Texas family bought him illegally when he was just a cub and raised him as if he were a large dog: he slept in the grandfather’s bed, wrapped in blankets, while a child in the household dreamed of having their own Lion King.
In 2014, rescuer Vicky Keahey took him in at the In-Sync Exotics sanctuary. She knew the adjustment would be slow, so she tried something simple: she left a blanket in one corner of the enclosure. Lambert curled up right there and fell asleep instantly.
Since then, there has always been a blanket in his corner. He is now an adult lion weighing nearly 200 kilos, and he can never return to the wild because he would not know how to survive on his own. But every night, before going to sleep, he still needs that piece of fabric that reminds him someone is taking care of him.
