A young Dominican woman shared on social media what her first visit to the gynecologist was like, an experience that, according to her account, ended up being much more difficult than she expected. Her testimony quickly drew attention online, especially because of the way she described what happened during the procedure.

According to her explanation, she had begun having sex with a woman and thought that, upon starting her sex life, she should go to a medical center for a checkup. During the appointment, the doctor asked whether she had a partner. She answered yes, but did not specify that her partner was a woman.

The young woman said that she subsequently lay down for the procedure and knew that the professional was going to insert an instrument. However, she said that when the examination began, she had a very strong physical reaction: “I twisted around, I bent over completely”. In the middle of her account, she tried to explain what she felt with the doctor, but the sentence was left unfinished: “I felt that the doctor…”.

At another point in her testimony, she explained that she had assumed she was prepared for the appointment simply because she had already had sex. “I thought I was already ready”, she said, before acknowledging that she did not really know how to explain what she was experiencing. She also recounted that the doctor asked her again whether she really had a partner, and she once again answered yes.

The young woman said she left the appointment “traumatized” and recounted that she even shed a tear. Later, she explained to the professional that she had a female partner, something she had not specified during the initial questions. In her own words, after clarifying it, “everything was fine there”.

The account sparked comments and discussions on social media about the uncomfortable situations that can arise during a gynecological appointment, the difficulty some people have speaking about their intimate lives with a professional, and the importance of consent and communication during any medical procedure.
