Do you support same-sex adoption? 🏳️‍🌈

Laura Zapata made the statement no one forgot; on Ventaneando, the Mexican actress defended singer Yuri after her comments against same-sex adoption and went further: she said gay couples could adopt “puppies, kittens, little birds, little fish”, but not children.

Her argument was that minors have the right to grow up with a father and a mother, and that we must “obey the laws of nature” because a same-sex couple cannot conceive biologically.

The comparison with pets was what caused the most outrage, and accusations of homophobia were quick to follow.

Zapata asked not to be judged for having a different opinion and said she had already clashed with actor Felipe Nájera over the same issue.

Almost eight years later, her words continue to resurface whenever diverse families are discussed.
