When Lionel Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo got married in 2017, at one of the most talked-about weddings in the world of soccer, they asked for something unusual for an event like this: that the guests donate to a good cause instead of buying them traditional gifts.
The chosen recipient was TECHO, an organization that builds emergency housing for families in need in Argentina, the country where Messi was born. According to reports, the donations raised 11.386 dollars, enough to help fund 10 emergency homes.
The amount may not sound like much compared with the splendor of the ceremony, but for ten families, it meant going from having no secure roof over their heads to having a place to sleep. What would you have done if you could ask each guest for anything?
