Lionel Richie could no longer stay on his feet.
On Saturday, August 29, at 77, the singer took the stage at The Muny, in Forest Park, St. Louis, to put on another one of those shows that made him a legend. But something went wrong along the way. Witnesses said that toward the end he looked exhausted, and to close with “All Night Long” he had to ask for a chair. The same song he once sang standing for hours, this time found him without the strength to finish it standing.
Hours later, Richie decided to go to the hospital on his own for a checkup. He ended up admitted to the intensive care unit, while doctors investigate a case of mild dehydration. He is expected to be discharged this Tuesday, September 1. It’s not the first time: in June, in St. Paul, Minnesota, he had to be taken away by ambulance after feeling “dizzy” and “strange” in the middle of a concert. 🙏
