Elbie, a 2-year-old Jack Russell, slipped through a narrow gap in the balcony of a Meriton building in Dee Why, Sydney 🇦🇺. Her owner, Jake Dobrin, searched everywhere for her without finding a trace. Hours passed, days passed, and the fear of the worst grew on every floor of that 13-storey skyscraper.

It was a neighbour with a drone who found her: Elbie was trapped between some bars on a ledge, on the other side of the building, after nearly 48 hours without food or water. Firefighter Joel Spillane rappelled down from the roof while a safety tarp was set up below, in case something went wrong.

The rescue was neither quick nor easy, but Elbie returned to Jake’s arms healthy, though exhausted. A veterinarian examined her, and she was given fluids and rest. The family has already blocked that gap in the balcony so the story never happens again 🐶
