Katie Robinson was at her home in Australia baking a birthday cake for her son when the situation escalated into a life-or-death emergency. Little Dusty, just 14 months old, accidentally inhaled edible gold dust. When it mixed with the moisture in his lungs, the dust turned into a paste that blocked his breathing and left him unconscious within seconds.

Doctors had to place him in an induced coma to allow his lungs to recover from the trauma, after an exhaustive surgery to suction out and mechanically remove the coloring residue. Fortunately, according to his family, the boy is already showing signs of improvement.

Did you ever imagine that such a common baking ingredient could be so dangerous for a child?
