Nelson Mauricio Sevilla Cálix was 30 years old and led two parallel lives in Roatán, Honduras.
In the El Suampo neighborhood of Coxen Hole, he shared a home with Judith Melanie McBride Brooks, 42. A few minutes away, in the El Ticket neighborhood, he was having an affair with Catherine Daniela Laínez Ramos, 21. According to police investigations, neither woman knew the other existed until they both found out.
What happened next took place in El Ticket. According to reports, the women confronted him with a guarizama-type machete, and the argument among the three led to the attack. The victim, originally from Olanchito, Yoro, and a resident of the island, died from a serious wound to the neck.
Minutes later, DAET officers, together with the DPI and DNPSC, arrested the two suspects in the act and seized the weapon. Both were placed in pretrial detention, and their initial hearing is scheduled for October 6. The investigation remains open: it is still unclear what role each woman played in the attack; the only thing that is clear is the motive.
