Lizzy Bull lives with neurofibromatosis, a rare genetic condition that causes painful tumors to appear on the skin and that, in her case, severely affected her face and vision. Although her mother fears the risks she faces when moving around alone, Lizzy decided to take a key step toward her independence: walking to the supermarket alone for the first time.
With her cane as a guide, she made her way through her neighborhood, became disoriented at times, and even joked when she realized she had mistakenly walked onto the path to a house. But she kept going. She finally reached the store, received help finding her items, and managed to do her shopping by herself.
For many, it may seem like an everyday task, but for Lizzy it was a huge victory: a way to prove to herself that she can build confidence, make her own decisions, and move closer to the dream of living more independently. 🥹
