Eugene was born on January 17, 2026, at the Toledo Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio, and he attracted attention from the very beginning. He weighed about 59 kilos at birth, is the son of Lily and Rocket, and became his mother’s first calf and his father’s second.
Just six days later, he was already introduced to the public after successfully passing his neonatal checkups. His keepers said that he adapted well to the rest of the herd, where his older brother Franklin also lives, and that from a very early age he showed a playful and rather restless personality.
But none of that is what made him a star. What really won everyone over was that small, dark tuft, perfectly parted on top of his head. On social media, people began joking that he looked like he was wearing a toupee, that he needed a tie, or that he had been born ready for a school picture.
The name Eugene also came from public suggestions and, according to the zoo, ended up fitting his personality perfectly. At two months old, he already weighed over 110 kilos and was still growing quickly, but his famous “hairstyle” remained exactly in place.
Eugene may not have chosen his look, but he was clearly born knowing how to attract attention.
