For sixty minutes, one man carried an entire continent. Yassine Bounou, Bono, stood between the posts and decided that logic was not entering his box.
He guessed Mbappé’s penalty. The best striker on the planet, waiting almost a minute for the VAR, shot to the left post. Bono was already there. It was the first penalty Mbappé has missed at a World Cup.
Then came Doué’s shots, the headers, the free kicks. Four colossal saves. France tried everything, until the wall gave way.
It’s nothing new. In Qatar 2022 he was also the executioner from the spot, when he saved two penalties from Spain and took Morocco into the top four in the world.
There are goalkeepers who save shots. Bono saves destinies.
