Salomón did not understand earthquakes or rubble. He only knew that Lenny always came back for him.

On August 10, the Ana Pilar building collapsed in the Cuarto de Legua neighborhood of Cali, while Colombia was shaken by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake.

When rescuers reached the remains of the apartment, they found Lenny Fernández, a 38-year-old lawyer, dead. She had covered Salomón with her own body until the end. The dog survived.

Three days later, in Pasto, the city where Lenny was born, they said goodbye to her at the United Pentecostal Church of Colombia, where she sang and played the piano every Sunday.

Salomón was there, perched on the coffin, without moving for almost the entire tribute.

A friend, Yami Reyes, said that Lenny took him everywhere, with his bed, food, and water in the pickup truck.

That day, the dog only did what she had taught him without words: not to leave.
