Lucas Vignale was 28 years old, with a camera in his hand and the whole world ahead of him. On the night of Saturday, June 14, 2026, the Argentine audiovisual director filmed Christ the Redeemer lit up over Rio de Janeiro and posted the video on Instagram with a single word as the caption: ‘God.’ Nothing else. As if something, without him knowing it, had already said everything.
The next day, Sunday the 15th, Vignale died in the collision of two helicopters over the neighborhood of Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in Rio. He was one of the six fatalities in the accident. On that same flight were the Argentine YouTuber Gaspi and the American singer Oliver Tree. All three were in Brazil on a layover on their way to the 2026 World Cup in the United States, working on an audiovisual project.
When the news was confirmed, that video in front of Christ filled with messages. Thousands of people turned his last post into a farewell he never knew he was giving. Vignale had collaborated with Bizarrap, Trueno, and J Balvin, and his film ‘El tren fluvial’ made it to New York’s MoMA. He was, without question, one of the most promising voices in Argentine independent cinema. He had everything left to film.
