Little Luciana is 4 months old and has already known abandonment and the love of an entire country.
She was left alone near a hospital, with no explanation other than the silence of the person who left. But the Cantonal Board for the Protection of Rights did not stop until they found her family: her grandparents, who will now be the ones to raise her, hold her, and care for her every day. While her case was being resolved, thousands of Ecuadorians followed her story as if it were their own. Prayers, clothes, food supplies, and financial aid arrived from people who had never seen her in person but could not stand by and do nothing.
The girl’s mother must now answer before the law, because abandoning a minor is a crime under the COIP. Little Luciana, on the other hand, is starting over: this time, surrounded by those who decided not to let her go.
