A call about domestic violence in Minot, North Dakota, ended up uncovering something no one expected to find in a closet.
On Saturday, August 22, police arrived at the home of 49-year-old Craig Kerzmann and 45-year-old Sarah Kerzmann over a fight. There, they were told about a baby who had been dead for nearly three years. The officers located a concrete-filled container that matched the description of the one that, according to the investigation, held the infant’s remains. They sent it for analysis to the Bismarck Office of the Forensic Examiner.
One day earlier, a neighbor had called the police: she said that Sarah, intoxicated, confessed that there was a dead child in the closet of her home. According to that sworn statement, Sarah gave birth to triplets about three years ago in Wichita Falls, Texas, and one of them died at six months old while in Craig’s care. The death was never reported. Both now face charges for failing to report the body of a minor and disturbing a human burial site, while Texas and North Dakota investigate together what really happened to that baby.
