The controversial World Cup organized by FIFA and its president, Gianni Infantino, sparked a multitude of criticisms surrounding the administration of the sporting authority, especially with situations as irregular as the ban on referee Omar Artan entering the United States.

Jonathan Liew, an award-winning columnist for the British outlet The Guardian, tore into the top authority in football with a powerful article in which he defined him as one of the biggest cowards in the world of sports:

“A weak and petty man who lost control of his own tournament. A man who wilted in the face of genuine conviction. A man who had in his hands the most powerful cultural force in the world and ended up giving it away”.
