Halima Cissé, a woman from Mali, was at the center of one of the most surprising multiple births recorded in recent years. On May 5, 2021, she gave birth by cesarean section to 9 babies at a clinic in Casablanca, Morocco.
At first, doctors thought she was expecting 7 babies, but later studies revealed they were nonuplets. The pregnancy was extremely high-risk, which is why she was transferred from Mali to Morocco to receive specialized care. The babies were born alive, 5 girls and 4 boys, weighing between 500 grams and 1 kilo.
The case drew attention not only because of the number of babies, but also because pregnancies like this rarely end with all newborns alive. The family then faced a massive routine: incubators, checkups, milk, diapers, and a home that changed forever.
