James Flores, a young man from Monterrey, Nuevo León, had everything ready for his wedding. He had invested about $4,800 in his dream wedding.

But one condition from his future wife made him change his mind: she did not want to be a stepmother to his three children. For James, that condition was non-negotiable: “My children come first,” he stated.

Without thinking twice, he canceled the wedding and posted the package for sale on Facebook at a low price. The post went viral, not only because of the deal but also because of the curiosity it sparked. “I demand to know why he canceled,” people wrote to him.

And when he sold the package, he told the truth: he loved his fiancée, but she did not give his children the attention he expected. “If she doesn’t love them, I can’t marry her.”

For him, the decision was painful but necessary. “I’d rather remain a single dad,” he said. Users were quick to react: some applauded him for putting his children first, while others criticized him for looking for a nanny rather than a wife.
