Abdullah’s family had been suffering for more than a month without understanding what was happening: the chemical smell was constant, the nausea appeared without warning, and their 10-month-old baby would not stop vomiting.

Firefighters came to the scene on several occasions, inspected the facilities, and since they found nothing, Abdullah decided to install a hidden camera outside his door.

What he discovered left him frozen: his neighbor, Xuming Li, 36, would stealthily crouch down and use a syringe to inject a liquid under the door.

The surveillance footage captured the man repeating the operation “on several occasions”. Police analyzed the liquid and found two narcotic substances used to treat pain that have side effects such as difficulty breathing, skin irritation, vomiting, hallucinations, and even fainting.

Li, who had filed noise complaints months earlier, was arrested a few days later. “Even during war, the worst enemies do not attack their opponent with chemicals”, Abdullah said, visibly shaken.
