The fence turned out perfect. Newly installed, made of light-colored wood, shining under the sun in Joliet, Illinois. It remained standing only as long as it took the homeowner to refuse to pay.
According to César Díaz, owner of Diaz Fence Company, the customer threatened to call ICE so he would not have to pay his workers. Instead of giving in, the crew picked up the same tools they had used to build the fence and retraced their steps: board by board, post by post, until they left the yard as if they had never been there.
In the video, recorded by Díaz and posted to his Instagram account, the homeowner can be seen arguing as the work comes apart before his eyes. Díaz also accused the man of holding on to a chainsaw during the argument, something no one has independently confirmed. What was captured on video, however, was the response: no payment, no fence.
