Man accused of pretending to have Down syndrome and hiring caregivers to bathe him and change his diapers

A man named Paul Anthony Menchaca was accused in Gilbert, Arizona, United States, of pretending to have Down syndrome to deceive caregivers and get them to bathe him and change his diapers.

According to the investigation, the 31-year-old man used emails and messages while posing as an alleged mother named “Amy”, who was seeking help to care for her disabled “son”.

Several women accepted the job thinking they were assisting a vulnerable person, but later discovered that Menchaca had no disability and that he derived personal satisfaction from the situation. The case became public in September 2018 and ended with the man arrested for fraud and other related charges.
