Raúl Flores made his dog a promise when he died: he would become the strongest man in the world. That dog was named Tayzon.
On Saturday, September 5, at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham, England, Flores loaded a bar with 511 kilos and lifted it off the ground. With that, he broke the world deadlift record, which had belonged to Iceland’s Hafþór Björnsson since 2025 with 510 kilos.
He is 26 years old and is originally from Mexico, specifically Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas. He started in powerlifting and switched to strongman in 2021. Last year, at this same championship, he had lifted 453.5 kilos. This year, in training, he was already nearing 504.
When he finished competing, he dedicated the feat to his dog on Instagram. It was no coincidence that he now goes by Tayzon: it is the name he has carried since he decided to honor that promise.
The dog is no longer here. The promise, fulfilled, was written forever into the history of the sport.
