Rohtash Chaudhary couldn’t move.
For almost two years, after a car accident, this 41-year-old Indian athlete depended on others for the simplest things. Before the crash, he trained every day; afterward, he couldn’t even stand without help. Rehabilitation was slow and painful, with no guarantee that he would ever be the same again.

He returned to push-ups as one returns to learning how to breathe. First a few, then more, then with weight. The exercise that had once been routine became the way to rebuild a body the accident had dismantled. High-protein diets, daily training, and a mind trained not to give up were the path back.

This year, at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, with a Guinness World Records judge overseeing every repetition, Chaudhary carried 27,21 kilos on his back and completed 847 push-ups in an hour. He surpassed the record held by Sami Jomah Hassan since 2023. The body that couldn’t get out of bed ended up lifting the world, one push-up at a time.
