Cheng Pei Ming woke up chained to a bed. He had a 35-centimeter incision in his chest and, according to his testimony, parts of his liver and left lung had been removed. The Telegraph reported that it happened in July 2004, after he was sedated for refusing to sign some forms.

A Falun Gong practitioner, he was arrested in 1999 and sentenced to eight years in 2002. He said he saw other practitioners disappear. In 2006, he escaped from a second hospital when a guard fell asleep.

After years in hiding, he spent five years in Thailand as a UN refugee and arrived in the United States in July 2020. Transplant experts cited by The Telegraph confirmed the removal of tissue from both organs. In the interview, Cheng said he still suffered from intense pain and had a scar running from his chest to his back.
