Mangayamma Yaramati waited more than five decades to experience a moment many people take for granted: hearing her own child cry.
In their village, not having children made them targets of comments and stigma for years, while they continued to wait in the hope that one day they could have the family they dreamed of.
That day came on September 5, 2019.

At 74, Mangayamma gave birth to twin girls by cesarean section at Ahalya Hospital in Guntur, India. She had become pregnant through in vitro fertilization, using a donor egg and her husband’s sperm; he was then 82 years old.
According to the hospital, all three were healthy after the birth.

Sadly, shortly after the birth, Mangayamma’s husband died, leaving her alone with the difficult task of raising the children at that age, though this did not diminish the happiness of having fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother.
