Manolo Lama, the historic Spanish commentator, held nothing back after Argentina-Egypt. For him, what he saw on the pitch was “one of FIFA’s biggest robberies against world football”.

His anger centered on Argentina’s third goal, where according to his own analysis there was a clear grab on an Egyptian forward that VAR ignored, while it did review a minimal contact on Mohamed Salah. “They swallowed Egypt’s goal”, he fired off.

Lama was blunt: for him it was neither a foul in Argentina’s favor nor a penalty on Salah. Even so, he made it clear that Argentina deserved to win and praised Messi as “the best in history”.
But his verdict on the referees and VAR left no room for doubt: “They are two shameless scoundrels, period”.
